{"id":487,"date":"2015-02-08T17:04:02","date_gmt":"2015-02-08T17:04:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.proudfoot-design.com\/resolution_audio\/?page_id=487"},"modified":"2015-02-08T17:04:02","modified_gmt":"2015-02-08T17:04:02","slug":"configuration-for-mac-osx-snow-leopard","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.resolutionaudio.com\/?page_id=487","title":{"rendered":"Configuration for Mac OSX (Snow Leopard)"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"column_left\" style=\"float: left; display: inline; \">\n<p>There are two primary steps to configuring playback through your Cantata Music Center or Pont Neuf device:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<ol>\n<li>Make sure all &#8220;system sounds&#8221; (beeps, interface sounds, etc.) are played through the internal sound card<\/li>\n<li>Route only musical information through the Cantata Music System.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Under the Apple menu, choose \u201cSystem Preferences\u201d.<\/p>\n<div class=\"imageCompAudio\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.resolutionaudio.com\/computeraudio\/index-web-images\/mac1sysprefs.gif\" alt=\"System Preferences Screen\" width=\"253\" height=\"318\" \/><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Choose \u201cSound\u201d under the hardware section.<\/p>\n<div class=\"imageCompAudio\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.resolutionaudio.com\/computeraudio\/index-web-images\/mac2sysprefsaudio.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"456\" height=\"402\" align=\"middle\" \/><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>First, we want to ensure that system-related sounds are routed to the internal speakers and not through your system.<\/p>\n<p>Click on the \u201cSound Effects\u201d tab, and under \u201cPlay Alerts and Sound Effects\u201d, choose \u201cInternal Speakers\u201d.<\/p>\n<div class=\"imageCompAudio\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.resolutionaudio.com\/computeraudio\/index-web-images\/Mac_Step_2_Alerts.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"524\" height=\"399\" \/><\/div>\n<p>Now, select the \u201cOutput\u201d tab and choose the appropriate device, either \u201cCantata Music Center\u201d or &#8220;Pont Neuf&#8221; as the output device. Music from iTunes and other music sources will then be routed through that device.<\/p>\n<div class=\"imageCompAudio\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.resolutionaudio.com\/computeraudio\/index-web-images\/Mac_3Sound_Outp.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"521\" height=\"390\" \/><\/div>\n<p>You also need to make sure that higher bit rate audio isn\u2019t downsampled before being output. If you\u2019ll only be playing CDs and standard-resolution audio files, you only need to perform the following steps once. However, if you plan to swtich between standard and high-resolution audio formats, you\u2019ll need to change these settings more often. You may wish to drag this application to the Dock for quick access.<\/p>\n<p>Within your Applications folder is another folder called \u201cUtilities\u201d. Open the Utilities folder and look for an application called \u201cAudio MIDI Setup\u201d (It looks like a small synthesizer keyboard), and launch the application.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"imageCompAudio\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.resolutionaudio.com\/computeraudio\/index-web-images\/MacStep4a%20_Audio_Midisl.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"562\" height=\"361\" \/><\/div>\n<p>Select \u201cAudio Devices\u201d, and select Cantata Music Center on the left.<\/p>\n<p>In the options for &#8220;Cantata Music Center\u201d, choose the appropriate sample rate (Labeled &#8220;Format&#8221;) in the \u201cAudio Output\u201d section. For CD source material or MP3 music files, this will be 44100.0 Hz, 2ch-24bit.<\/p>\n<p>Note that if the sample is different than the source material, the system will perform a sample-rate conversion and the data sent to the Cantata will not be \u201cbit-accurate\u201d. Always make sure the sample rate matches the source material.
